The Dampoort lock in Bruges is a busy lock. The doors swing open almost continuously throughout the day. At night it gets quiet, still because of the lock. But a little further on there is a notorious pub. A large terrace, widespread tables and an enthusiastic crowd. What more can you have on a summer evening?!
One of the water exit ports of the upward lock doors started to function bad because of a failing cylinder. The government immediately decided to replace the hydraulic cylinder with a brand-new one.
Our company was assigned to build out the old cylinder and install the new one. In two night interventions, the job was done while our divers were immersed in the party noise of the pub down the road. And afterwards they drank a fresh beer.
