High Tech Cutting

SUBMAR is your partner in high tech and cost effective cutting techniques such as abrasive water jet cutting (UHP-cutting), plasma cutting and diamond wire cutting.

There is a clear need for effective, environmentally friendly and safe cutting techniques that can be used in difficult and complex circumstances.

Compared to conventional cutting techniques (mainly torches and thermal lances), the techniques offered by SUBMAR have the following positive characteristics.

UHP Cutting

  • Very deep cuts possible in reinforced concrete. Cuts made up to 1.2 metres deep in concrete with 5 layers of reinforcement.
  • Very deep cuts possible in steel. Cutting depth of 26 centimetres in propeller shaft steel and 45 centimetres in cast steel.
  • Deep cuts possible in layered structures (steel, concrete, cork, bi-tumen, grout,…) even if several water layers are present.
  • Explosion-protected because no open fire is used and no oxygen is introduced.
  • Environmentally friendly because cutting is done with water and natural sand. No other (environmentally unfriendly) substances are used.
  • The cutting technique does not cause vibrations or shocks.
  • The cut heats up to a maximum of 60°C so that no crystal structure changes occur.
  • The cutting surface is smooth and regular.
  • Any slope or shape of the cutting surface is possible.
  • The cutting tool is small so that it can be used in tight spaces.
  • The reaction forces during cutting are small so that lightweight supporting structures can be built that can be placed by a diver, for example, without extra help.
  • There is nothing in the cut outside of water and sand, which means that the machine can never get stuck.

Diamond cable saws

  • Deep and bulky cuts possible in reinforced concrete. Cuts made in reinforced concrete to a depth of several metres.
  • Deep cuts possible in steel.
  • Deep cuts possible in layered structures (steel, concrete, cork, bi-tumen, grout,…). The presence of several layers of water has no effect.
  • Explosion-proof because no open fire is used and no oxygen is introduced.
  • Environmentally friendly because no (environmentally unfriendly) substances are used that can pollute the environment.
  • The cutting technique does not cause vibrations or shocks.
  • The cut heats up only a few degrees so that no crystal-struc-ture changes occur.
  • The cutting surface is smooth and regular.
  • As soon as the cutting wire is through the cut, the cut is fully guaranteed.

High power plasma cutting

  • Deep cuts possible in many different steel grades.
  • A relatively high cutting speed. Up to 4x the cutting speed of UHP-cutting and up to 15x the cutting speed of diamond cable saws.
  • No escaping beam that can damage the underlying structures.
  • Environmentally friendly because no (environmentally unfriendly) substances are used that can pollute the environment.
  • Cutting technology does not cause vibrations or shocks.
  • The cutting surface is smooth and regular.
  • Any slope or shape of the cutting surface is possible.
  • The cutting tool is small so that it can be used in tight spaces.
  • There are no reaction forces during the cutting process, so lightweight support structures can be built that can be placed by a diver, for example, without extra help.
  • There is nothing in the cut outside of the heated ionized air, which means that the machine can never be trapped.

All the above techniques have proven their usefulness and offer many development possibilities.
