Artes Depret from Zeebrugge is building a bicycle underpass at the Sint-Lievenspoort in Ghent.
Our company was asked to empty the tubular piles on which the bicycle deck will rest to a certain depth below the bottom of the river Scheldt.
The top layer in the piles was soft material, but underneath we found a very hard (historical?) layer full of obstacles.
In order to loosen and crush the many obstacles in the soil and subsoil, it was decided to use a 1,000 bar dredging head. That turned out to be a success.
The loosened material was pumped up and deposited on the soil next to the piles.
