Breaking barriers in offshore well decommissioning
What once took half a day, we now achieve in just 4 hours or less. SUBMAR has reached a true breakthrough in waterjet cutting of multistring conductors — and we can prove it. Backed by rigorous testing, our innovation is set to redefine efficiency, safety, and sustainability in offshore decommissioning.

A milestone for the industry
This achievement is more than a technical step forward — it’s a promise to the industry. By reducing cutting time from 12 hours to just 4, we deliver faster operations and following also lower costs. And with every hour saved, we also give back to the environment — fewer vessel days mean less disturbance at sea and a lighter footprint on our oceans.

The urgent need for change
The need for efficient multistring conductor cutting has never been greater. In the UK Continental Shelf, well plugging and abandonment (P&A) accounts for nearly half of total decommissioning costs — and delays are mounting. With a backlog of over 500 wells already past their deadlines and more than 1,000 wells due between 2026 and 2030, the pressure on operators is intensifying. The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) is clear: timely decommissioning is a legal obligation. As the largest cost driver in the decommissioning process, well P&A also represents the greatest opportunity for cost savings and performance improvements. Solving the challenge of cutting multistring conductors quickly, safely, and cost-effectively is therefore critical to meeting industry expectations and reducing the growing backlog.

Proven in the toughest conditions
SUBMAR has demonstrated — with hard evidence — that we can cut a 4-layer 30” multistring conductor in just 4 hours. To ensure reliability, our test setup was designed to simulate the worst-case scenario:

  • A shift of all three internal casings in the same direction, forcing us to cut across a distance of 18.6″.
  • The complete absence of grout in the piles. This means that a 16″ water column must be cut through, which makes cutting significantly more difficult.

Even under these extreme conditions, SUBMAR’s technology delivered: successful cuts in 4 hours or less.

Shaping the future
With our tested and proven cutting technology, SUBMAR is ready to support the industry in tackling this challenge head-on. Together, we can make offshore decommissioning faster, safer, and more sustainable — and ensure the North Sea continues its transition with responsibility and care.
