An idyllic spot somewhere deeply hidden in West Flanders is called Boezinge. A beautiful place to make nice walks. The Boezinge town council cherishes its two old locks. They spare no effort to keep the locks in service.

To keep the locks in service, the old lock gates had to be removed and replaced by new identical wooden gates, SUBMAR was invited to do the diving work.

It was not easy at all.
Because the lock is hidden in the greenery, the lock floor was covered in a thick layer of branches and silt. It took several days to remove the silt and make the doors completely free.

Before the doors could be hoisted, bulkheads were placed at the top and the bottom of the lock and sealed. And that was quite a challenge too. The floor turned out to be curved many centimetres and was damaged in many places. What do you expect after many decades of continuous service? In consultation with the client, an extensive sealing system was applied.
It was an exciting moment when the pumps were started and the water level began to drop. But it all worked out in the end.
